The Ransackers Association is a UK-based organisation that promotes lifelong learning for adults over 55. It encourages its members to learn new things and pursue their interests and believes that everyone has something to offer and that it is never too late to learn. Some of its members are also members of The City and Guilds of London Institute.
Ransackers has released a new video featuring retirees who share their experiences of lifelong learning. The video showcases five individuals, including a retired clinical psychologist and an emeritus fellow at Pembroke College, Cambridge, who have pursued a variety of interests and passions throughout their lives, ranging from psychology and philosophy to literature, languages, and practical skills such as sewing and cooking.
The retirees express their enthusiasm for the idea of lifelong learning and lament the decline of adult education opportunities. They emphasise that learning is not just about vocational training but also about personal growth and fulfilment.
The video also highlights the role of organisations like the University of the Third Age (U3A) and the Open University in providing opportunities for retirees to continue using their brains and socialising with others. The retirees encourage others to pursue their interests and find joy in learning new things, regardless of their age or educational background.
