Launching the City & Guilds Neurodiversity Index 2025 and creating environments for everyone to thrive

Ahead of Neurodiversity Celebration Week (17-23 March), we are pleased to launch the third edition of the annual Neurodiversity Index, commissioned by the City & Guilds Foundation team, in partnership with Do-IT Solutions.

The first report, launched in 2022 aimed to increase awareness and understanding of neurodiversity in the workplace for both individuals and organizations, establishing a crucial benchmark. The second report focused on understanding progression rates and identifying improvements or trends. And this year, the goal is to build on this progress by examining the evolving landscape of neurodiversity in the workplace, including support systems, trends, and ongoing challenges.

The report surveyed over 1300 individuals and organisations from various sectors and found that 41% of neurodivergent employees face challenges in the workplace most days.

There was some good news though in the report, where gradual year-on-year progress has been made. For example,

  • 55% of individuals who disclosed their condition in the workplace received an “okay to good” response, up from 42% last year.
  • Additionally, 43% of senior leaders have received specific training related to neurodiversity in the past 12 months.

This year’s report also takes a future-focused approach, recognizing neurodivergence across the lifespan. The sample of respondents in the index this year includes an older workforce coming to terms with their neurodivergent identities.

Neurodiversity Index 2025

Kirstie Donnelly MBE, CEO of City & Guilds, says: “It’s great to see improvement areas such as training and accessibility in this year’s Neurodiversity Index, but there’s still a lot of work to be done to ensure more workplaces are neuroinclusive. Reports such as this help organisations assess their current practices and policies, learn from the recommendations and make reasonable adjustments. At City & Guilds, we wholeheartedly believe that by building awareness of neurodiversity and embedding it into workplace activity we can better support more people to thrive.”

We have some great insights in action this year, from organisations that are championing and supporting neurodiversity in the workplace.

Capgemini Invent, one of our Princess Royal Training Award alumni received a DEI commendation for their training programme that was focused on unlocking diverse skills through neuro-inclusive training and Harbour Energy, Do-IT Solution client and largest London listed independent oil and gas company shares what they’re doing to create an inclusive and supportive environment for neurodivergent employees and their families!

Professor Amanda Kirby MBBS MRCGP PhD FCGI, CEO of Do-IT Solutions says: “By challenging biases at every stage—from recruitment to career progression—organisations can build neuroinclusive environments where every individual has equitable opportunities to contribute and thrive. Supported by legislation the move towards true neuroinclusion is not only an ethical imperative but also a strategic driver for success.”
