For over 145 years, City & Guilds has been committed to making a meaningful impact on society by delivering high-quality skills training that meets the demands of the times. At the heart of this mission is helping individuals gain the competencies they need to secure a job, improve their skills, and advance in their careers. Through this, we are not only changing lives but also driving growth across industries and boosting productivity.
A key measure of success for us this year is looking at how well learners progress after completing their qualifications. The latest independent data shows that 76% of City & Guilds learners have moved on to further education or employment—a clear testament to the our purpose. Learners also report feeling more confident, with better job prospects and a brighter outlook for their futures. And we know there is lots more for us to do too. Our recent research – ‘Making Skills Work: The Path to Solving the Productivity Crisis’ highlights the challenges the UK faces in addressing its productivity gap. It found that fewer than half of working-age adults felt they left education with the right skills for their careers, and that key sectors are still falling short in training workers for future needs.
The impact report is packed with lots of data, and the results are exciting! Some of the key stats you’ll find this year include:
- Skills Bootcamps, particularly in industries like rail, are driving employment, with 93% of learners finding jobs after completion.
- Our work with prisons has seen 81% of former prisoners land jobs, helping to tackle workforce shortages and reduce reoffending rates.
- Our courses contributing a whopping £15.3bn to UK society.
- £260k of our funding towards displaced people (refugees and asylum seekers) has contributed £2.6m in social value which is over £11 for every £1 we’ve spent.
