What do we mean by Green Skills Bursaries?

The transition to zero carbon is essential to the future of our society. The changes required to build thriving, sustainable economies will require a ‘greener’ workforce, with some jobs reducing, others increasing, new jobs created and the addition of new skills to existing occupations.

As you take this exciting step of starting or continuing your skills development, you may be curious about how you can contribute to this changing economy. But first, let’s clarify what we mean by ‘green.’

Green Jobs

Employment in an activity that directly contributes to - or indirectly supports - the achievement of [the UK’s] net zero emissions target and other environmental goals, such as nature restoration and mitigation against climate risks (Green Jobs Taskforce).

Green Skills

The technical skills, knowledge, behaviours, and capabilities required to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation + Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA)).

Eligible Qualifications

If you are potentially interested in a green job, you will need to ensure you have the necessary credentials and qualifications. Below is a list of all ‘green’ qualifications available at City & Guilds, as well as the careers that they can lead to.
